Current Volunteer Opportunities
Position Title: Office Assistant
Purpose: The position of Office Assistant serves as an administrative assistant to the Executive Director and The Education Director, supporting MOSS’s mission of providing quality educational experiences. The Office Assistant will play a role in representing the organization to the public who visit or contact the MOSS office.
Benefits: This is an excellent opportunity for someone thinking about a career in the nonprofit sector or for someone interested in public relations and marketing and/or education. This position will provide valuable customer service experience and skills, as well as training and potential mentorship opportunities.
- Answering the office phone, directing calls, and taking messages
- Greeting office visitors
- Assisting with lesson preparations and materials collection
- Preparing correspondence
- Other duties as needed
Time Commitment: The Office Assistant will be needed during office hours Monday – Friday from 9am-5pm. Scheduling is flexible, but volunteers should be available for a minimum of 6 hours per week.
Qualifications: Basic knowledge of computers, pleasant manner, dependable, problem-solving ability, self-motivated, creative, and willing to learn.

Position Title: Zookeeper
Purpose: The position of Zookeeper serves as a caretaker for our family of MOSS critters, which includes a bearded dragon, corn snake, Madagascar hissing cockroaches, leopard spotted gecko, turtle, fish, millipedes, and a tarantula named Charlotte. These loveable creatures are used by MOSS as learning aids in our programs, so they need to be well taken care of and handled regularly. Training will be provided.
- Feeding and watering
- Handling the gecko, snake, and dragon
- Cleaning animal habitats
- Other animal-related duties as needed
Time Commitment: 3 hours per week. Approximately 1 hour per day (Monday, Wednesday, and Friday) any time during business hours, 9am-5pm.
Qualifications: Basic knowledge of animal/reptile/insect care, love of animals and critters, flexible, willing to learn, and detail-oriented.
